Is "Wicked" by Diana Bocco Worth the Read? A Comprehensive Review for Fantasy Book Lovers
I enjoy reading novellas as I like to be able to pick up a book just before bed and finish the story, knowing I won't be kept awake wondering what will happen next. Though part of a series, Wicked Nights had enough of a conclusion that I didn't feel like I was left hanging.
This book is very well written and brilliantly edited. This is top class writing. I enjoyed Laurie's character and Bocco creates enough of a back story for her that I was able to understand her very quickly. Although this was written for two POV's, I wonder if it may have been more powerful to keep it in one. Normally I like to get into the heroes mind but there wasn't quite enough from Alex for me to grasp onto like there was with Laurie. Just a little more from him would have been nice.
Once I realised where the plot was going, I was concerned it might seem ridiculous - Laurie agreeing to spend the night with Alex so quickly - but the powerful chemistry between them meant it worked. I do think that the chemistry could have been made more intense with a little more description but it still worked nicely. The sex scene was hot but would have been more intense with added description - I couldn't picture either character really.
I know a book is good when my stomach flips and this did this to me when Laurie was held captive. I loved the connection between Alex and Laurie and his fear for her. On the whole, worth reading - fun, sexy and exciting.

Women are disappearing, and NYC police investigator Laurie Cole is sure Alex Volman knows something about it. Unfortunately, he's not talking -- that's part of the territory when your family tree is loaded with magic and warlocks.
But when Alex learns that the perpetrator has something even worse up his sleeve, he can't stay silent. He'll help Laurie, but she'll have to give as much as she gets.
One night. One ritual. Passion can change everything.
